Available weather and climate data

The data acquisition works with a time interval of 30 seconds. Each day, a text file is exported and stored on a data server in the institute. At the same time, an automatic export to an Excel file is done for the preparation of the reports. This file is archived as a monthly Excel sheet. For the most important meteorological variables, the following databases are updated regularly as Excel files.

  • Daily data (since 1893)
  • Monthly data (since 1878)
  • Seasonal data (since 1878)
  • Annual data (since 1878)

The approach greatly facilitates the processing of data requests.

During the period 1878-2016, the Weather Station of Hohenheim was located at 6 different positions. The homogeneity of the data is guaranteed related to geographic and orographic position. Comparison of parallel data measurements didn’t show differences between the places.

For getting the data, one must complete a Request Form and send it signed to Dr. Hans-Stefan Bauer (Email address below). Students and scientists of the University can get the data free of charge.

Otherwise, the director of the Institute of Physics must approve it and a fee will be charged according to the processing time (currently 56 € per hour).

Please ask Dr. Hans-Stefan Bauer for a Request Form (Email address below).
